I certainly did not see this coming. I will spare you the details, but I was offered the opportunity to become the library director at a library about 30 minutes away from where my daughter lives with her mother. Genoa City is about 4.5 hours from my daughter. So there really wasn’t much of a debate. Therefore, I accepted the position.
I will say that the library that I am going to is one of the very few that could have taken me away from Genoa City. I really grew to love it here. The library staff here is phenomenal. My biggest fear is that I will inherit a new staff that is nowhere near as great as what I have had here. Also, I am extremely impressed by the support the GCPL receives from the community. That kind of support in a town of this size is rare.
I would like to thank everyone for making me feel welcome and supporting the new things that we have been trying out at the GCPL. Having that kind of support makes life so much easier. It has not always been that way in other libraries where I have been.
My very best to all of you. I’m sure the new director will pick up where we left off. Please make them feel as welcome as you have made me feel.
My last day at the Genoa City Public Library will be this Friday, November 12th.
